Common repairs

  • Drilling and coring damage. A tendon gets nicked or cut during a core, anchor install or saw cut. We expose it, splice or replace it, and restress it.
  • Corrosion rehabilitation. Water and chlorides get into older decks, especially parking garages, and attack the strand and anchors. We remove the damaged tendon, replace it and restore the encapsulation.
  • Rock pockets and anchor zone defects. Voids behind the anchors from poor consolidation. We open them up, repair the concrete and get the tendons back to full force.
  • Broken or blown-out tendons, along with replacing tendons in damaged or deteriorated runs.

How it works

1. Assess

2. De-tension

Safely release the affected tendons.

3. Repair

Splice, replace or re-anchor the strand and restore the concrete.

4. Restress

Restress to the specified force and document the elongations for the engineer.

PT repair FAQ

We cored through a tendon. Now what?

Stop drilling in that area, keep people clear of the slab edge and the anchors, and call us. We’ll locate the damage, work with your engineer on a repair and restress the tendon.

Can the building stay open during a repair?

Often, yes. It depends on the location and the engineer’s shoring requirements. We plan the work around your occupants.

Do you work with the structural engineer?

Always. Repairs follow the engineer’s direction, and we provide stressing records when we’re done.
