PT Modification

Cutting Openings in Post-Tensioned Slabs

You can’t just saw a hole in a PT deck. We make it safe to.

Tenant improvements and remodels keep running into the same wall. When a TI calls for a new opening, we re-anchor the post-tension cables around it so the slab keeps carrying its load.

Typical modifications

  • New stair openings
  • New elevator shafts
  • Atriums and floor openings
  • Openings for mechanical, plumbing and electrical penetrations
  • Slab removals and demolition in PT buildings

We work from the engineer’s modification design. We de-tension the affected tendons, make the cut, install new anchors at the edge of the opening, and restress. Done right, the rest of the slab never knows we were there.
